Math

6h

Evaluate expressions as specific values of their variables. Include expressions that arise from formulas used in real-world problems.

Students will be assessed on their writing & solving of expressions of real-world problems involving situations in which variables are used

Math

7th

Use variables to represent quantities in a real-world or mathematical problem and construct simple equations to solve problems

Students will be assessed on their writing & solving of equations of real-world problems involving situations in which variables are used

Math

8th

Solve linear equations involving one variable; one-step, two-step, and multi-step equations using all four operations.

Students will be assessed on their procedures of solving linear equations as well as identifying linear equations in the real-world and solving in these situations.

Math

PBL

Understand the concept of ratios and proportions.

Students will use a graphic design tool to explore the concept of ratios and proportions in their logo design and create balances of graphics, text, color, and shapes in their design

ELA

6th

Trace and evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, distinguishing claims that are supported by reasons and evidence from claims that are not.

Use knowledge of language and its conventions when writing, speaking, reading, or listening.

Students will cite three claims that are supported by reasons and evidence in their invention presentation.

Students will use this week’s ten vocabulary words when writing, speaking, reading, and listening.

ELA

7th

Trace and evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, assessing whether the reasoning is sound and the evidence is relevant and sufficient to support the claims.

Use knowledge of language and its conventions when writing, speaking, reading, or listening.

Students will assess whether their three claims and reasoning is sound, relevant, and sufficient to support their claims in their invention presentation.

Students will use this week’s ten vocabulary words when writing, speaking, reading, and listening.

ELA

8th

Delineate and evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, assessing whether the reasoning is sound and the evidence is relevant and sufficient; recognize when irrelevant evidence is introduced.

Use knowledge of language and its conventions when writing, speaking, reading, or listening.

Students will delineate and evaluate the argument and specific claims in their invention presentation to make sure their reasoning is sound, relevant, and sufficient and will delete irrelevant evidence.

Students will use this week’s ten vocabulary words when writing, speaking, reading, and listening.

ELA

PBL

Include multimedia components and visual displays in presentations to clarify claims and findings and emphasize salient points.

Students will use Canva, Animator, Emaze, or their choice of multimedia to create an advertisement, web page, and business plan for their group’s invention.

Science

6th

Develop and use a model to describe how the total number of atoms does not change in a chemical reaction and thus mass is conserved.

Lab with physical models of molecules--modeling chemical reactions.

Science

7th

Write informative/explanatory texts, including the narration of historical events, scientific procedures/ experiments, or technical processes.

Students will be typing up their procedures & results from science fair experiments.

Science

8th

Conduct short research projects to answer a question (including a self-generated question), drawing on several sources and generating additional related, focused questions that allow for multiple avenues of exploration.

Students will be researching a self-generated question related to scientists’ explanation of the Cambrian Explosion.  They will find 3 sources and summarize each, then develop an additional related question.

Social Studies

6th-8th

Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.

Students will finish research and creation of Google maps related to the Revolutionary War and then begin notes summarizing a secondary source on the Constitutional Convention.

Leadership

PBL

Apply the use of the habits to current and past leaders.

Students will finish writing their essay on their leader and showcase how they feel the leader used the habits in their life.
