Special Combined Meeting with Maquoketa Board of Education
The Andrew Community School Board held a Joint Meeting with the Maquoketa Community School Board on Monday, November 14, 2011 at 6:00 PM in the Andrew School library.  A roll call was taken. Maquoketa School Board members present were: President Brian Tabor, Vice President Marty Hudrlik, and Board Members Deb Lane, Mike Hayward, and David Sybesma. Also present were Maquoketa Superintendent Kim Hucksteadt, High School Principal Mark Vervaecke, Curriculum Director Helen Snell and Board Secretary Barb McKeon.

Andrew School Board Members present were President Charlie Peters, Vice President Randy Ernst,  Board Members Allan Till and Yvonne Weimerskirch, Superintendent Kent Hammer, Lead Administrator/Principal  Andy Crozier and Board Secretary Jan Hammond. Absent, Board Member Eric Strathman.

The agenda was presented for approval. Brian Tabor moved and David Sybesma seconded. All members voted aye. Motion carried. 
Andrew Board Member Eric Strathman arrived at 6:17 p.m.

Maquoketa High School Principal Mark Vervaecke gave a report on school improvement mapping using the Iowa Core. The purpose is to change teaching behaviors and raise student expectations to impact student achievement.  He was followed by Maquoketa Schools Curriculum Director Helen Snell who gave a report on district school improvement initiatives.

A discussion was held on transition issues related to Whole Grade Sharing. Both schools were pleased with the communication between the two schools and the ability to iron out minor problems as they came up.

A discussion was held on determining committee representation for the Maquoketa-Andrew Facilities Improvement Fund which is a 5 member committee to include the 2 superintendents, 2 board members and 1 appointed community member.

Allan Till motioned to adjourn the meeting. Randy Ernst seconded. All members voted aye. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 7:20 p.m.

Regular Board Meeting

The Andrew Community School Board held its regular meeting on Monday, November 14, 2011 at 7:30 PM in the Andrew School Board Room.  A roll call was taken.  Board members present were: President Charlie Peters, Vice President Randy Ernst, Board Members Allan Till, Yvonne Weimerskirch, Eric Strathman, Superintendent Kent Hammer, Lead Administrator/Principal Andy Crozier and Board Secretary Jan Hammond.

The agenda was presented for approval.  Eric Strathman motioned and Yvonne Weimerskirch seconded to approve agenda. All members voted aye. Motion carried.

Minutes from the October 10, 2011 meeting were presented for approval.  Eric Strathman motioned and Yvonne Weimerskirch seconded. All members voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence was presented from Lead Administrator/Principal Andy Crozier. 

Visitors were acknowledged. Four students from Maquoketa High School were present. They were representing their government class.

Financial statements were presented for approval. Allan Till motioned and Randy Ernst seconded. All members voted aye. Motion carried.
Warrants for payment were presented for approval. Randy Ernst motioned and Eric Strathman seconded. All members voted aye. Motion carried.

An open enrollment request was presented.  A family moved from the Dubuque district into Andrew and requested their child be allowed to continue school in the Dubuque district. Yvonne Weimerskirch made a motion to approve, Randy Ernst seconded. All members voted aye. Motion carried.

Business Manager Adam Crigger gave his financial report which shows positive growth for Andrew school. He also discussed the preliminary audit report. The Andrew School audit was held on Monday, November 7, 2011, and went very well. 

Yvonne Weimerskirch volunteered to be the Andrew School Board representative to the Jackson County Conference Board.

A discussion was held on health insurance options for the Andrew School District. Representatives from ISEBA will meet with school employees on Wednesday, November 16, 2011. The Andrew School Board will hold a special meeting on Monday, November 21, 2011 at 7 P.M. for further review.

Andy Crozier gave a report on the District Advisory Committee's first meeting. He was pleased with the initial turnout. The meeting was very positive with many good ideas for the district. 

A whole grade sharing transfer request was tabled until Monday, November 21, 2011 at a special meeting being held at 7:00 P.M. 

Andy Crozier gave a report on the facility update. Plans are in place to move the school office downstairs into the old weight room area. 
Allan Till moved the meeting adjourn. Randy Ernst seconded. Motion carried. Meeting was adjourned at 9:26 P.M.
