January 9, 2011 Minutes

The Andrew Community School Board held its regular meeting on Monday, January 9, 2012 at 7:30 PM in the Board Room.  A roll call was taken.  Board members present were:  President Charlie Peters, Vice President Randy Ernst, Board Members Allan Till, Yvonne Weimerskirch, and Eric Strathman. Also present were Jan Hammond Board Secretary.  Lead Administrator/Principal Andy Crozier arrived at 7:40 p.m. Superintendent Kent Hammer was absent. 

The agenda was presented for approval.  A motion was made by Yvonne Weimerskirch to approve the agenda. Eric Strathman seconded.  All members voted aye. Motion carried.

Minutes from the December 12, 2011 Regular Board Meeting were presented for approval.  Allan Till made a motion to approve and Randy Ernst seconded. All members voted aye. Motion carried.

Two visitors were present at the meeting.

Financial statements were presented for approval. Yvonne Weimerskirch made a motion to approve and Eric Strathman seconded. All members voted aye. Motion carried.

Warrants for payment were presented for approval. Eric Strathman made a motion to approve and Randy Ernst seconded. All members voted aye. Motion carried.

Lead Administrator Andy Crozier presented a 5 year plan for facilities at Andrew. This is a fluid plan with changes that can be made as needed and as finances dictate. First priority identified as moving the office to the first floor and having one entrance point into the school. 

A proposal from Bracke-Hayes-Miller-Mahon, Architects, LLP out of Davenport, Ia was presented for remodeling the weight room into the new school office.  The proposal to provide architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical design, construction documents and construction administration, including observation, for the renovation of the weight room into District offices came in at $9,950.00.  Architect drawings need to be approved by the Fire Marshall's office. The project will be open to public bids and selection.
Yvonne Weimerskirch made a motion to approve Bracke-Hayes-Miller-Mahon, Architects, LLP as architects for the remodeling of the weight room into the school office. Randy Ernst seconded. All members voted aye. Motion carried.

The 2012-2013 innovative calendar was presented and reviewed by the board. An opportunity was made by Board President, Charlie Peters for the public to comment on the 12-13 school calendar. No public comment was given. A motion was made by Eric Strathman to approve the 2012/2013 school calendar. Allan Till seconded. All members voted aye. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Yvonne Weimerskirch to approve online classes for four 8th grade students to take high school Spanish via Iowa Learning Online. Randy Ernst seconded. Weimerskirch, Ernst, Peters and Till voted aye. Eric Weimerskirch abstained. 

Lead Administrator Andy Crozier reported that:
  •  Spirit Week will begin Monday, January 23rd. This will include dress-up days, Awards Assembly/Game Day and a Winter Dance. 
  • Study Table will begin again for students failing a class. Students can also come on their own. This is to improve academic performance. 
  • The Andrew Community is starting a Lions Club. Mr. Crozier attended first meeting and is helping getting the group up and going in Andrew.
  • Reported on Governor Branstadt's legislative initiative and possible impacts on classrooms.
  • January 18, 8th grade students will visit Maquoketa HS and January 31st they will visit Bellevue HS. Students will be given information on each school, a chance to sit in on classes and talk with students in order to make their decision on Whole Grade Sharing. 

Allan Till made a motion to adjourn meeting. Eric Strathman seconded. Meeting was adjourned at 8:30p.m.
