The weather is getting colder, leaves are falling everyday, and all of us are getting mentally prepared for what they are calling a “colder and more snowy winter” than last year. Weather aside, this is a special time of year for families and communities. The concepts of family, caring, love, and friendship fill the air and give us that extra boost to get through the early months of a cold winter.
Since it is the winter season, let me lead off by reminding all community members that delays and cancellations are posted on local TV/Radio stations, our school website and facebook site, and blasted via our text message alert system. Since we are in the first year of a whole grade sharing agreement, local superintendents and myself will be busy calling each other to make a collaborative decision on a cancellation or delay. Please refrain from calling the office to ask if school is getting out early or has been cancelled. When we have an emergency related announcement, it takes all hands on deck to get the word out immediately. Let’s hope we have a very quiet and uneventful weather season.
In the spirit of being thankful for the people, places, and things around you, I wanted to mention a few things I’m thankful for this year. First off, I’m thankful that the Andrew Schools have two great partners in learning with Maquoketa and Bellevue Schools. Our whole grade share agreement is off to a great start and our students are adapting well at their new high schools. All three schools continue to have conversations everyday about how we can improve services for students attending neighboring schools and transitioning to schools after 8th grade.
I’m also thankful for the opportunity to work with a great staff everyday at Andrew CSD. Every employee shows dedication and a passion to help and serve each and every student in our district. Andrew Schools is a place where every child is important!
Lastly, I’m thankful for our community support. This was very evident in our near perfect attendance at parent/teacher conferences this fall. It’s also showing in the contributions and volunteers we have seen in our building this past year. Andrew CSD thanks all of you. You are making a difference in creating a positive future for Andrew students!
From my family to yours, have a wonderful and safe holiday season!
