A message from the principal
Andrew Community School District is a preK-8th grade school district that serves approximately 180 students. We are a Leader in Me school and have recently become a Lighthouse School. Our students, staff and community are extremely proud of this accomplishment as it means that our district embraces the belief that all students are leaders, all students have genius and students are empowered to lead their own learning. We are the 4th school in Iowa to become a Lighthouse School and there are only 280 Lighthouse Schools in the world. We believe this is only the beginning of our journey in building students and adults capacity to be great leaders in our world and we will continue to grow in supporting our students in living out the 7 Habits of Leadership.
We are one of few rural school districts who are growing in our enrollment in the lower elementary grades. We have added a second kindergarten teacher to our district this year as well as another preschool special education teacher to serve our growing preschool numbers. We also have a DHS licensed daycare on site, “Little Leaders” that serves newborns through 5 year olds. These numbers have also skyrocketed as more parents are looking for high quality day care that is aligned with the beliefs of the school district. Andrew CSD is also a 21st Century Grant school which provides funding for our LEAP program (free before and after school activities). We offer before school support for students beginning at 7:00 am and also fun and engaging after school programs for all ages until 5:30 pm.
We believe there are many reasons for our increase in enrollment. As families decide where they want their child(ren) to begin their education, they are looking for a school community that supports the learning and growth of the whole child, which is what happens at Andrew CSD. Andrew does this not only through our beliefs as a Leader in Me school but also the belief that we offer our students a high quality educational experiences through things such as: Project Based Learning, opportunities for our students to learn and interact with students and teachers in other grades depending on the needs of each students and the implementation of research based strategies that support students in leading their learning through a variety of learning styles.
Once our students graduate from 8th grade, families are able to choose where they would like their child(ren) to attend high school. We currently have a whole grade sharing agreement with Maquoketa CSD and Bellevue CSD. Our guidance staff and administrators support families and students during this transition and offer many opportunities to visit both school districts to each family is able to make the best decision for their child.
We are extremely excited to support you and your child in their educational journey and look forward to getting to know you even better throughout the coming year. Please reach out if you have any questions or would like to learn more about the opportunities at Andrew CSD.
